Ideal FD: no water flow

Checked against Ideal's own documentation: Ideal Heating: what does my boiler fault code mean? (page 2). Last reviewed October 2026. How we check

Check these first, then call an engineer

Ideal's general fault code guide describes FD as: no water flow. Ideal says this can mean the central heating pump isn't running.

What you can safely do

  1. Bleed your radiators.
  2. Check the pressure gauge reads between 1 and 1.5 bar, and top up if it is low.
  3. Turn the boiler back on.
  4. Ideal suggests touching the pump: if it is working, it should gently vibrate and feel warm.

Call a Gas Safe engineer if

  • The pump isn't running: Ideal says to contact your installer.
  • The pump is running but the code stays: Ideal says an engineer visit is needed.

Applies to Ideal boilers (Ideal's general fault code guide). Codes can differ between models, so check your manual.
