Worcester Bosch 227: no flame signal after ignition

Check these first, then call an engineer

Worcester Bosch describes 227 on Greenstar 4000 and Greenstar 8000 Life boilers as: no flame signal after ignition. Worcester's guidance for a boiler that fails to light (shown as EA on Greenstar i and CDi Classic boilers) lists no gas supply or low gas pressure, a blocked or frozen condensate outlet, or a blocked flue as common causes.

What you can safely do

  1. Check your gas supply: does your hob work? If there's no gas, Worcester says to contact your gas supplier.
  2. If it is safe to do so, check the condensate pipe outlet outside for ice or other blockages. Thaw it with a hot water bottle, a microwaveable heat pack or a cloth soaked in hot water. Don't use boiling water.
  3. If it is safe to do so, check the flue outlet outside for damage or blockages.
  4. Reset the boiler as your user manual describes, and wait two or three minutes for it to restart.
